REDUB – BASS ‘N’ DRUM ROCKING THE NET AND THE DANCEFLOOR

Your average dance booking involves an individual: a disc jockey and his or her record box…er…obviously.  Your average rock booking involves a band of like-minded interacting musicians and their influences…apparently.  Two seemingly completely different approaches to the purveyance of musical pleasure.  Welcome to the sound of ReDub: a band of DJs offering a cohesive group presentation of cutting edge dance music that’s already making waves on internet radio, and with a collective wealth of experience of rocking conventional clubs and free parties.

WHAT THE…?

You already know about drum ‘n’ bass.  ReDub can best be described as Bass ‘n’ Drum,   spanning breakbeat, dubstep, jungle, baile, roots and more in a dancehall style.  The act consists of four DJs and a samplist: loads of bass-tastic butt-wobbling riddims salted with dubbed-out sound effects.  They know their HDs from their Hogs, their Funktions from their Voids – soundsystem culture is their religion!

WHO THE…?

Unbalanced Jack: has already smashed it a couple of times at Stumblefunk’s outdoor parties, U-J’s also been active with the Crash club nights in Manchester.  A founder of Lancaster’s well-respected Sourpuss crew, which has been promoting commercial and free parties for over eight years.  Has discs out on the Broke Records label.  Resident at Dub Spot.

Watoo: started running party nights called ReDub that brought together the talents you are meeting here and gave the group its name.  Has played at Manchester’s late Tangled club, and most recently at Rufmouth’s Not For Prophet.  You want to see him dance too!!

Megagnesh: founder of and player on the Ohana Soundsystem out of Stockport, local free party-ists.  Introduced dubstep to the group and doesn’t take any prisoners when it comes to rough beats!

Cache: another player on the Ohana rig, brings a touch of comedy and psychedelia here and there to the mix, his take on dubs is almost jazz-like.  With Meganesh brought a taste of ReDub to Drum Music last December – the room was rammed and they utterly smashed it.

Papa Roc: on the samples and sound FX, nicing and spicing up the dance.  ‘Nuff said!

HOW THE…?

No fixed format, no-one’s the star and they’re all stars.  Up-front style or any permutation of the back-to-back concept, if you’ve got a backside they will shake it.
